Tibia Stamina Guide: Happy Hours, Regen & The 14h Penalty

6 min read · Updated May 2026

Tibia's stamina system is small in screen-space — just a number in the corner — but it controls how much experience and loot you get for every minute of hunting. The Stamina mini-calc on the home page tells you how long to wait offline. This guide explains what those numbers mean and where the misconceptions usually hide.

1. The basics

  • Full stamina is 42:00 (42 hours).
  • Stamina only drains when you actually gain experience from killing a monster. Idling, training, making runes, and getting hit by monsters do not drain it.
  • The first kill from a no-combat state always drains a minimum of 2 minutes — this protects against re-logging tricks.
  • Stamina only matters for premium accounts in one specific way (the Happy Hours bonus). The rest of the system applies to everyone.

2. The three XP zones

Stamina's only job is to scale your XP per kill. There are three distinct rates depending on how much stamina you have left:

Zone Stamina range XP multiplier Notes
Happy Hours 39:00 – 42:00 150% +50% bonus — premium only. Free accounts get 100% in this range.
Normal 14:00 – 39:00 100% Where you spend most of your hunting time.
Penalty 0:01 – 14:00 50% Plus: monsters drop no loot if you dealt the most damage, and no coop loot at all.
Empty 0:00 0% No XP and no loot at all. Log out and refill.

A note on free vs premium: the +50% Happy Hours bonus is the only XP modifier locked behind premium. The normal-zone 100% rate and the below-14h penalty apply equally to everyone.

3. Bar color vs actual effect

This is where most players get confused. The in-game stamina bar uses two colors:

  • Green — when you're in the Happy Hours range (39:00 – 42:00).
  • Red — anywhere below 39:00, all the way down to 0:00.

But the XP penalty only kicks in below 14:00. So the bar can look red and feel like a warning, but if you're at, say, 25:00, you're still earning 100% XP — just no bonus. The red color from 14:00 to 39:00 is "you're out of bonus", not "you're being penalised".

Rule of thumb: trust the number, not the colour. As long as your stamina reads 14:00 or higher, your XP is at 100% (or 150% if you're a premium in the green range).

4. What drains stamina (and what doesn't)

Stamina drains at exactly 1:1 with real-world time — every minute you spend gaining XP from a monster kill drains 1 minute of stamina. The zone you're in (green / red / penalty) doesn't change the drain rate; only the XP multiplier.

What does NOT drain stamina

  • Training on dummies (regular or exercise weapons).
  • Being attacked by monsters without killing any.
  • Killing summoned monsters (your own or a teammate's).
  • Making runes, casting spells, mana-sitting.
  • Travel, depot management, chat, quests with no kills.

The 2-minute minimum drain

When you initiate combat after being out of combat, the first kill drains a minimum of 2 minutes of stamina, even if the fight took 5 seconds. This stops players from re-logging to dodge stamina drain on quick kills.

5. Offline regen — 3:1, 6:1, and the 10-minute delay

The default way to refill stamina is to log out. Two rules govern the regen rate:

Stamina range being refilled Regen ratio Meaning
Below 39:00 (red zone) 3 : 1 3 minutes offline = 1 minute of stamina back
39:00 – 42:00 (green / bonus) 6 : 1 6 minutes offline = 1 minute of stamina back (twice as slow)

The +10 minute initial delay

Stamina does not start regenerating the moment you log out. The character needs to be logged off for a continuous 10 minutes before any regen begins. This is the same 10 minutes whether you're at 41:00 or at 0:00 — it's a fixed start-up cost.

Short hunting breaks lose disproportionately to this delay. Logging off for 8 minutes and back in gets you zero stamina regen. Logging off for 11 minutes gets you 1 minute of regen at the normal rate, or 10 seconds at the green rate.

The wiki's anchor example

From TibiaWiki, the reference figure everyone can verify: going from 39:00 → 42:00 takes 18 hours and 10 minutes of being offline. Math:

3h of green = 180 min × 6 = 1,080 min offline

+ 10 min initial delay

= 1,090 min = 18h 10m ✓

Worked examples

Starting stamina Time offline to reach 42:00
41:00 6h 10m (1h green × 6 + 10 = 370 min)
40:00 12h 10m (2h green × 6 + 10 = 730 min)
39:00 18h 10m (3h green × 6 + 10 = 1,090 min)
36:00 27h 10m (3h white × 3 + 3h green × 6 + 10 = 1,630 min)
30:00 45h 10m (9h white × 3 + 3h green × 6 + 10 = 2,710 min)
14:00 3d 21h 10m (25h white × 3 + 3h green × 6 + 10 = 5,590 min)
0:00 5d 15h 10m (39h white × 3 + 3h green × 6 + 10 = 8,110 min)

Plug your own number into the Stamina mini-calc on the home page — it returns the exact offline time including the 10-minute delay.

6. Online regen — the Daily Reward streak

Since the Summer Update 2017 you can regenerate stamina while online — but only under two conditions:

  1. You've claimed your Daily Reward 4 days in a row (the streak applies as long as you don't break it).
  2. You're standing in a Resting Area. That's:
    • Any city depot
    • Any temple
    • Inside your own house
    • Guildhalls
    • The Adventurers' Guild

The regen rate while online in a Resting Area is the same as the offline rate — 3:1 in red, 6:1 in green, no 10-minute initial delay. Convenient if you want to AFK in your depot between hunts instead of fully logging out.

7. Stamina Extension potion

Added in Summer Update 2021. A consumable that instantly restores 1 hour of stamina. It can't push you over the 42:00 cap — if you're at 41:30 the potion brings you to 42:00 (30 minutes "wasted") and the rest is gone. Save them for when you're well below 42:00.

They're not common drops, but they show up in the Store and as event rewards. The trade-off is straightforward: 1 hour of stamina would normally take 3 hours offline (red zone) or 6 hours offline (green zone) to recover, so the potion is most valuable when you're trying to grind during the green zone or during a Double XP event.

8. Practical playstyle tips

  • Use the Happy Hours daily. The 3-hour green zone refills in ~18 hours offline, which lines up perfectly with sleep + work. Hunt your premium 3 hours in the morning, log off, and the bonus is ready again by the next morning.
  • Don't hunt below 14:00 unless you have to. The 50% XP cut + loot loss make those hours pure punishment. If you absolutely must keep playing, do non-stamina-draining activities (training, runemaking, quests).
  • Don't take 5-minute breaks expecting regen. The 10-minute initial delay means short logouts give nothing. Either stay online or log off for 30+ minutes.
  • Reach a Resting Area before logging off if your streak is active. Online regen at the depot is just as effective as full logout — and lets you trade or post in the market while you wait.
  • Save Stamina Extension potions for Double XP events. An extra hour of stamina during +100% XP is dramatically more valuable than during a normal session.
